Grace Martin

President

Hi everyone! My name is Grace Martin, and I am a senior from South Windsor, CT. I joined UAS in order to learn more information about the university’s program and to get more connected with my peers. Outside of UAS, I enjoy playing basketball and doing other intramural sports, as well as spending time with friends. I also am part of the CareCakes club and HuskyTHON. For the past two summers I have interned at MassMutual. First, I was on the Group Life Pricing team, and most recently I worked on the Supplemental Health Pricing team. In the past I’ve held positions in UAS as Director of Philanthropy and as Chief Administrative Officer. I am honored to be your President this year, and am looking forward to seeing a bunch of new and familiar faces. UAS has thoroughly helped strengthen my professional and networking skills, as well as helped me to build some life long friendships, so if you are considering joining, please please do! Matt O'Connor

Chief Administrative Officer

Hello! My name is Matt and I'm a Junior from Cromwell, CT. I'm majoring in Actuarial Science and have had two internships so far. I spent my first summer as an intern at Milliman, where I analyzed trends in Medicare Part D spending. I also did some research projects into drug overdoses and pharmacy shopping. This past summer, I was an intern at Cigna. During this internship, I worked on the Reinsurance Valuation Team for Variable Annuity Death Benefits. In addition to the CAO role, I am also one of the Casualty Actuarial Society student ambassadors. At UConn, I'm involved with Math Motivators and the Goldenson Center for Actuarial Research. I usually tutor once or twice a week for Math Motivators, and I love it! Please let me know if you'd be interested in tutoring, we're always looking for more people! For the Goldenson Center, I coordinate the annual undergraduate Case Study and also seek out small businesses in the local area that could use the expertise of an actuary. Outside of UConn related things, I love to ski. On weekends in the winter, I'm usually up in Vermont skiing all day! If you'd like to learn more about my experiences or just more about UAS please reach out! I'm more than happy to set aside some time to talk!

Brady Campbell

Hi everyone! My name is Brady Campbell and I am a junior from Wallingford, CT. I am majoring in actuarial science and I interned at Point32Health this past summer. Outside of UAS, I am a member of the UConn women's basketball practice team. I also enjoy playing tennis, golf, and spending time with my friends.

Eli Braman

Vice President of Member Development

I am a Senior studying actuarial science at University of Connecticut. I grew up in a small town in upstate New York known as Utica. I decided to go to school out of state at UConn because of their phenomenal actuarial science program. I chose to study actuary science because I have a passion and appreciation for mathematics and probability. Furthermore, I enjoy problem solving and critical thinking. This past summer, I had the opportunity to intern as an actuary for Oliver Wyman Actuarial Consulting. It was an amazing experience that exposed me to true actuarial work and allowed me to expand my network. Some other activities I enjoy in my free time are going running / working out, as well as watching movies with my friends.

Ivan Ren

Co-Vice President of Professional Development

Hey! My name is Ivan Ren and I am a senior from Rocky Hill, CT. This previous summer, I interned at The Cigna Group in Bloomfield, CT as an actuarial intern. Outside of school, I love playing and watching basketball. I also practice with the UConn women's basketball team here. Definitely feel free to reach out if you have any questions and I'm very excited to meet everyone!

Tyler Strull

Co-Vice President of Professional Development

Hi everyone! My name is Tyler and I am a senior actuarial science major from Burlington, CT. I’ve had two P&C internships, both on the P&C side. Last summer I was an intern at CapSpecialty, a small company from Hartford. I just concluded an internship at The Hartford and worked on the Workers’ Comp Reserving team where I gained lots of exposure to R Shiny as I helped develop an app for my team to use. Last year, I was the director for technology for UAS, and this year I’m one of the Co-VP’s of Professional Development, so I’ll be pretty involved with the career fair and many events related to that! Outside of UAS, I love playing intramural sports (Go Actufairies!) and I am also the president of the Survivor club here at UConn! I always love to meet new people and make new friends, so please reach out anytime!

Sabine Lucas

Director of Professional Development

Hi everyone! I'm Sabine (I go by Beenie) and I'm a junior from Rochester, NY. I decided to major in Actuarial Science because it is a real world application of math that combines my other interests in business and problem solving. This past summer I was an intern at John Hancock in Boston on the Pricing & Modeling team. Outside of academics, I love to play ultimate frisbee, spikeball, ski, and read. Please reach out if you have any questions!

Khrystyna Fedynyak

Hi everyone! My name is Khrystyna and I'm a senior majoring in Actuarial Science - Finance. My hometown is Wilmington, MA but originally I'm from Ukraine. This past summer I interned at John Hancock as an actuarial product intern and plan to pursue the life insurance field. I joined UAS as a sophomore after deciding to switch career paths. Cole Leonard

Co-Vice President of Social Events

My name is Cole Leonard and I am a current senior here at UConn, studying Actuarial Science - Mathematics. I went to high school in Hopedale, Massachusetts but currently live in Douglas, Massachusetts. The reason I chose Actuarial Science was due to my passion in statistics during high school. Last summer, I interned at United Healthcare and worked on the National Accounts - UMR Actuarial Services team. I enjoy playing and watching basketball in my free time (Celtics fan). UAS has helped me a lot when it comes to learning more about the insurance industry, the day-to-day life of an actuary, and various companies' actuarial programs.

Ty Pomroy

Co-Vice President of Social Events

Hi everyone! My name is Ty Pomroy and I am a senior, Actuarial Science - Finance major from Bozrah, CT. The past two summers I interned at Travelers as an actuarial intern and an ALDP intern. I chose actuarial science because I was always interested in math and wanted to do something other than just math or stats. I also like how actuaral science has a business side to it as well and isn’t just purely math. I am very involved in intramural sports and the Actufaries franchise we have here at UConn. I think that joining UAS and being an active member is a great thing to do because you get to meet the people who you will have classes with, take exams with, and can hang out with outside of classes. There are also a lot of opportunities to talk to employers and get a foot in the door for an internship or full-time job.

Mike Cavaliere

Vice President of Public Relations

Hi, I'm Mike and I'm a sophomore from Staten Island, NY. I've known about actuarial since before I was even in high school, and every day that I've pursued this major/career at UConn I've grown to love it more and more. My favorite memories at college have nearly all been related in some way to UAS, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Join UAS. It's been the best decision that I've made throughout college, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Outside of my love for math, I love solving rubik's cubes, public speaking and hanging out with friends (yes a lot of those are in UAS) as well as playing competitive table tennis, bowling, and basketball.

Baxter Chmiel

Director of Technology

Hi everyone! My name is Baxter Chmiel and I am a junior majoring in actuarial
science from Gloucester, MA. As someone who joined UAS halfway through my sophemore year, I can say that UAS is a super valuable resource for any actuarial students, both academically and socially. UAS has given me a much better understanding of the actuarial career path, and I have many many great friends through UAS meetings and events. This last summer, I interned at the Quincy Mutual Insurance Group, and mostly worked on auto insurance pricing and underwriting. This was a great experience, and I learned so much information on how the insurance industry works on a day to day basis. In my free time, I love to play golf and am a huge sports fan, espcially for Boston teams. This summer I was able to go to the Celtics championship parade! Feel free to reach out with any questions, and I look forward to meeting everyone.

Priscilla Tran

Director of Alumni Relations

Hi everyone! My name is Priscilla Tran, and I'm a junior from Newington, CT. This summer, I interned at Prudential Financial in Newark, NJ on the New Initiatives Annuities Pricing Team. This year, I am the Director of Alumni Relations, so I'll be coordinating events and communications between current members and our alumni, who are key connections to our external professional network (and some of our best friends!) In UAS, I'm also involved in the social committee and HuskyThon. Outside of UAS, I love lifting, running, reading, and hanging out with friends. I recommend that anyone who is even remotely interested in actuarial science to join UAS, it's what helped me get an internship, learn more about the field and exams, build professional connections, and also how I met some of my closest friends!

Kaleigh Andrew

Hi everyone! My name is Kaleigh, and I am a junior from North Franklin, CT pursuing a B.A. in Actuarial Science-Finance-Mathematics. Layla Mejia

Co-Director of Philanthropy

Hey everyone! My name is Layla, I’m a junior and I’m from New Britain, CT. One of the main reasons why I chose actuarial science are the life long skills you can develop such as communication, networking, and presenting skills. I enjoy playing basketball and have played for most of my life growing up, but recently I picked up golf! One of the best things I can recommend being at UConn is actively staying involved in the UConn Actuarial Society! It’s a great way to make connections as well as being surrounded by such a supportive group of people.

Raina Cairo

Director of Fundraising

Hello! My name is Raina and I am a sophomore from Stafford Springs. I decided to major in actuarial science to combine my interests of business and math. Likewise, I initially joined UAS to learn more about actuarial science, but have made such great friends and memories in the process. Mariana Duong-Vazquez

Hi everyone, my name is Mariana! I am a sophomore from Middletown, CT majoring in Actuarial Science. I chose actuarial science because I have known about the profession since I was younger and it aligned with my interests in mathematics, presentations, and business. This past summer, I took summer classes both online and abroad, and attended the Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA) Early Career Symposium in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am also part of OLA’s Rising Leaders program, where I work with different committees of students to expand outreach to other Latinos interested in pursuing the actuarial field. Outside of academics, I am involved in the honors program, the Puerto Rican Student Association, and the Vietnamese Student Association, where I serve as a Co-Event Coordinator. I am excited to bring my experiences from these cultural organizations to UAS and to help create new events that celebrate diversity and inclusion! If you have any questions about UAS or my role, feel free to reach out!

Jonathan Jung

Director of Social Media

Hello everyone, my name is Jonathan Jung. I’m a sophomore from Agawam, Massachusetts, majoring in actuarial science. I chose actuarial science because I have always had an interest in applied mathematics and actuarial science is the definition of applied mathematics. I strongly recommend joining UAS because of the connections you can make. You will meet some great people and it is one of the best decisions I made in my life. In my free time, I love playing and watching football. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concern!
